Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need ShredMyFiles.com?

Shredding confidential documents or hard drive data is essential because it protects your company’s valuable information from becoming identified, and mitigates the risks of identity theft and data breaches. Not to mention, your business may be liable for large fines or prosecution for not abiding by legal obligations to destroy personal information. In many cases, it’s the law where privacy legislation requires businesses to destroy sensitive information.

We have in-office shredders, why should we outsource our shredding service?

Shredding files at your office requires more than just a capital investment. An employee’s time and wages also play a big part towards the inefficiency of shredding in-house. With any shredding equipment, your business acquires, you will be required to perform ongoing maintenance and repair, and will still incur the additional cost to have the shredded material safely taken away and securely disposed of. Outsourcing your shredding needs helps with the implementation of a destruction policy and provides a chain of custody should your business encounter an audit. To avoid the investment of invaluable time and money and to better redirect your focus back to your business, using a professional shredding service will get you on track to focus on the concerns that matter most to your business.

Do we have to separate staples, paper clips, binder clips, and spiral metal bindings?

No. At ShredMyFiles.com, we have a fast and durable shredder that is capable of shredding much more than just paper. We aim to save you time, effort and money and not burden you with separating the items.

Which materials can you not shred?

As all of our paper is recycled at the end of the process, we try our best not to contaminate the paper with foreign metals or plastics. That’s why we ask our clients not to include 3-ring binders, plastics such as sheet protectors or file folders, hard-bound books, bound ledgers thicker than 4 inches, or bound books similar in thickness to a phone book.

Besides paper, what else can you shred?

We not only offer document shredding, but also the secure destruction of internal and external hard drives and electronic storage media such as CD-ROM, CD-Rs, DVDs, Blue Ray discs, X-rays, microfiche, videotapes, cassette tapes, and even ID badges.

What happens if our secure consoles or bins are full before our scheduled service time?

Simply contact ShredMyFIles.com, and we’ll be happy to schedule an extra pick-up. If you find that you’re continually filling your containers before the next service date, we can provide you with additional containers or increase your service frequency to maintain security and convenience.

What happens to my documents once shredded?

Once destroyed, all shredded paper is 100% recycled. The paper is then generally re-purposed and converted to end-products such as hand towels, toilet paper, napkins, etc.

Whether you are looking for weekly, bi-weekly, monthly or one-time shredding service, we will help you find the best cost-effective solution that saves you time & money and gives you the best rates in the industry.
